Autumn Term – “ Bodies”


Scientific enquiry:

  • Can present findings in appropriate ways including in tables, graphs and text
  • Can read findings presented in line graphs
  • Can present data using line graphs
  • Identifies observable differences and similarities to observe or measure
  • Can observe changes over time
  • Can decide on sample size
  • Can decide how long to make observations and how often

Forces -  “body mass”

  • Can explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object
  • Identifies the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces
  • Recognises that some mechanisms, including levers, pulleys and gears, allow a smaller force to have a greater effect

Earth and Space -  “celestial bodies”

  • Can describe the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the Sun in the solar system
  • Can describe the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth
  • Can describe te Sun, Earth and Moon as approximately spherical bodies
  • Uses the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky

Geography – “physical features”

Location and place knowledge

  • Can locate  and Name the contrasting counties and cities of the UK (England, Wales, Scotland, N.Ireland), identifying and describing the physical characteristics
  • Can identify the position and explain the significance of latitude and longitude and Prime of Greenwich Meridian

Human and physical geography

  • Can give reasons for the effect of commercial and industrial activity on coastal environment ( e.g Shoreham Harbour or The Port of London)  and suggest ways to improve it

Geographical skills and fieldwork

  • Can compare land use and geographical features on different types of maps. Respond to and ask relevant questions about patterns in the landscape, and make appropriate observations on the location of features relative to others
  • Uses four and six figure grid references to locate features on an Ordnance Survey map or a map of the United Kingdom/World map
  • Is beginning to produce their own scaled maps

Art – “David Hockney”

Thinking artistically

  • Initiating their own ideas on how to fulfil a given brief
  • Can make informed decisions about colours, shade, tone and texture

Skills and techniques

  • Is showing an increased awareness of perspective to create depth (eg vanishing points)

Appreciation and evaluation

  • Can talk about the impact of some contemporary and traditional artists key work on wider culture


Digital Literacy

  • Uses search tools to find information within webpages or documents (eg Find)


  • Uses technology safely, respectfully and responsibly



  • Can apply pressure to the opposition (i.e. to regain possession) through marking and anticipation
  • Can pass, dribble and shoot with control in games
  • Identifies and uses tactics to help their team keep the ball and take it towards the opposition’s goal
  • Can field confidently in striking and fielding games
  • Can strike the ball with control with a bat or racquet
