“Time” Learning Objectives

Science (Continuation of last term):

Evolution and Inheritance:

- Recognises that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago.
- Recognises that living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring vary and are not identical to their parents.
- Can identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution.

Geography (Local Maps – Ascot and surrounding area):

Geographical Skills and Fieldwork:

- Can identify geographical patterns on a range of scales.
- Can produce accurate scaled maps.
- Can compare and contrast areas of the UK and the wider world by analysing their geographical features on a range of maps including digital/ computer mapping.
- Can describe geographical processes observed including taking appropriate measurements and represent these, e.g. text, graphs and spreadsheets.
- Can explain what physical and human processes may have occurred in a place by studying an aerial image of it.

History (Ancient Greece):

Ancient Greece - a study of Greek life and achievements and their influence on the western world

- Can describe how the influence of the Ancient Greeks is reflected in their own lives (e.g. art,architecture, literature, democracy, leisure)
- Can describe Greek life and achievements and their influence on the western world, e.g. The Olympics.
- Uses vocabulary in context and understand the terms relating to different types of history (e.g. cultural, economic, political, religious and social).
- Can create timelines from memory using dates, details and eras (showing knowledge of how to check for accuracy).
- Describe the positive or negative impact of a period of history on contemporary society.

Computing (Linked into other foundation areas):

Digital Literacy:

- Can use search technologies effectively to respond to given enquiries and support their learning.
- Is discerning in evaluating digital content, understanding that some information on the web is not always accurate, unbiased or reliable.
- Can use technologies and software to collect, analyse, evaluate and present data and information (e.g. spreadsheets, databases).


- Uses technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
- Recognises acceptable/unacceptable behaviour including breaking the law (e.g. trolling, copyright rules).
- Knows how to report concerns about content and contact both in and beyond the school (e.g. Facebook, Kik etc.).
- Know how to protect their online identity and digital footprint (e.g. passwords).
